Lawyer Fees in Pakistan: How Legal Charges Work

There is no official price list for lawyers in Pakistan. Fees are not fixed by statute; each advocate sets their own charges and negotiates them with the client. Because of that, the most useful thing to understand is how fees are usually structured and what costs sit outside the professional fee, so you can compare offers and avoid surprises.

How lawyer fees are usually structured

Advocates commonly use one or a mix of these arrangements:

Fees calculated purely as a percentage of the amount recovered are traditionally discouraged under the profession's conduct rules, so most advocates use fixed or per-appearance arrangements instead.

What drives the fee

• The complexity of the matter and how long it is likely to run.
• The court tier, since High Court and Supreme Court work usually costs more than district court work.
• The seniority and experience of the advocate.
• The city and the local market.

Why quoted fees vary so much

Two advocates can quote very different fees for what looks like the same case. The difference usually reflects seniority, the court where the matter will be heard, and the local market in that city. Court fees are separate from the lawyer's fee

Beyond the professional fee, a case carries its own official costs:

2. Whether court fees, stamps, and other expenses are separate.
3. How and when payments are due.
4. What happens if the case is settled early or withdrawn.
